Murdershock: Reasoning insanity

23/06/09  ||  Lord K Philipson

“- Excuse me, officer…”, the woman said. “- I believe there is a dead body in the trunk of that car coz there’s blood dripping onto the ground from it.”

The well-merited Judge Dredd-wannabe pig looks in the direction of the car and heads over to it to see what’s going on. When he reaches his destination and opens the trunk he discovers a dismembered body. There’s a leg here, a head there, a grandiose pony elsewhere. Blood and guts all over the place and the officer feels a little nauseous as he heads back to the woman who pointed out the scene.

“- You are right, m’am. It is a severed body in there and I thank you for the information.” he calmly and professionally explained while giving her a small, lovable slap on the tits. “- Someone mutilated what seems to be a girl in her mid-20’s.”

Mr. Law suddenly became puzzled coz something wasn’t right… “- What did she die from?” he mumbled to himself. “- Let’s see here; she’s dismembered and all and there was a bullethole in her forehead. But I don’t think that’s it…”

The genius policeman gets an epiphany.

“- I see it now! It’s all clear to me! I’m the muthafucken real life Grissom of C.S.I” he yelled out loud. “- The gunshot didn’t kill this gal. The dismemberment didn’t kill her either. NOT EVEN THE GODDAMN MURDER KILLED THIS HO!!!”.

With penis in one hand and the gun in the other he prepared for his final statement in this case; “- Are you guys ready?” he asked the complete crowd of 3 who now had strolled into the murder scene to see what was going on…

“- This woman died of… ta-daaaaaaaaa… MURDERSHOCK!

(complete silence)

And then the whole fucken world blew up.

After that fan-muthafucken-tastic intro on par with Agatha Christie’s best work we now head into the alternative murder scene that is the debut album of Murdershock – “Reasoning insanity”. You know you are most likely in for some serious bad shit if the band has a moniker so fucken retarded it’s hard to come up with something equally as retarded to say about it. Murdershock? Piss me in the face and call me Sunshine, what the fuck is a murdershock? “- Hey, there’s a murder over there! No, my bad, IT’S A FUCKEN MURDERSHOCK!!!”. If this continues I’ll fucken shock myself to death before this review is completed.

And now to the worst part – no matter how much I would like to rip these guys a couple of hundred new assholes, I just won’t be able to do it since “Reasoning insanity” is quite (murder)shockful (I just hit a new low, congratulate me) of intense quality metal. One might wonder why the fuck I’m taking on a band like this for… I have never ever heard of them, read about them nor seen them live. I have no knowledge whatsoever about Murdershock to be honest. So, why do I cover them? Here, lemme tell you; they are Finnish. And Finland is the home country of one of my closest friends – Statik Majik (aka Marko Saarelainen, co-owner of this site and fabulous artist for tons of album covers including The Project Hate MCMXCIX and Pestilence to name a few that you, the readers, might know about). He asked me to cover this CD becoz he made the album art for it and knows I don’t give a fuck if his 400 brothers (I think he only got one though) were in this band – he’ll always get an honest opinion out of me. I don’t know if Statik is friends with Murdershock and I don’t give a fuck. I don’t sugarcoat anything either way and Murdershock need not worry about getting the axe in here.

Despite the incredibly shitty band name, Murdershock deliver on most levels. I hear influences from thrash metal and death metal, the doublebass and blasts are present all over, some fine Morbid Angel thefts are here too and once in a while we get some nice Meshuggah-esque parts hammering yer penis into the ground. Every once in a while we get some small Pantera vibes too (the occasional riff), but they execute everything in a way that keeps them interesting to listen to pretty much all the time (something Pantera never managed to do). On top of this we have some catchy songwriting and decent vocals (as in “good but nothing special”). Murdershock is a quite brutal band with a soft touch for groove and melody – just the way I like it. This is but their debut, which is even more impressive considering they must be pretty new in the game since no one ever heard of them.

There are a few things on this one that prevents me from handing out an 8 (though they are really close to getting that – prove yerselves worthy on the next one, fuckos) and the main thing might be that I have a hard time telling the songs apart even after repeated listens. I don’t know if that is necessarily that bad a thing since it all reeks of full-on quality but there might be a little groove missing that I need to completely love this shit. Either way, “Reasoning insanity” (shit title) is a fucken fine display of modern brutal metal and there’s no way you’ll deny the fact that these guys deserve some coverage in the world of metal once you listen to them.

Fuck, Murdershock caught me on a good day it seems. Fuck them for that.

7,5 to ride, shock straight and speak the truth out of 10.

Oh, the cover? Well, it’s fucken ace as always when it comes to Statik Majik. He’s developed an own style over the years and if there’s any justice in this world, bands will fucken start to pay for his services. Check out his portfolio at www.leiskuva.net
